My parents, Arturo and Juana, had me as the penultimate of seven siblings in 1941 in the city of Puno, Peru, where I did my primary and secondary school.
My daughter, Paola, is a doctor working in occupational medicine.
I got my degrees of Medical Surgeon and specialist in Ophthalmology at the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín – UNSA in Arequipa, Peru.
I started working at the Ophthalmology Service of the Hospital Regional “Honorio Delgado” in Arequipa in 1980 and worked as medical chief for 26 years.
In 1986, I started teaching at the Unit of Ophthalmology of the Surgical Department of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad San Agustin, where I still work as Chief of the Ophthalmology Unit with the degrees of Doctor and Principal Professor.
In January 2016, I was appointed as Director of the Medical Department “Alcides Carrion Section” of the Universidad San Agustin, position that I continue to this date.
In 2007, I joined the Lions Club of Arequipa, but since I started in Ophthalmology I worked with the Lions for almost 20 years, having gradually cherished in my heart the principles of LIONISM: “VISION FOR ALL” and “PREVENTION OF BLINDNESS”.
I did my professional training thanks to the unconditional education of renowned ophthalmologists from Perú, Latin America and Europe in research centers and hospitals as:
*HOSPITAL REGIONAL “HONORIO DELGADO” , AREQUIPA
*HOSPITAL DE NIÑOS DE BUENOS AIRES (Argentina)
*LANDESKRANKENHAUSE EN AUSTRIA Y ALEMANIA
*LA SANTA CASA; SAO PAULO, RIBERO PRIETO and CAMPINAS (Brasil)
*Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute, SAN FRANCISCO (U.S.A)
Since the beginning my preference was Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, but I was also dedicated and engaged on Anterior Segment surgery, Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy.
In November 2009, I started the first “Pediatric Ophthalmology Center” in Arequipa, besides I work in the private practice.
